The Next Big Thing Blog Hop at Hedonist Six

Wow I feel like I've come so far in such a short time. This blog has been up for just about two months and I've just been tagged in my first ever blog hop! Thanks, Adam Gaffen!
So, apparently the "Next Big Thing" blog hop has been active for a while now and it is a means for authors to draw attention to their latest publication.

What is the title of your book?
Ladies' Day

Where did the idea for the book come from?
The basic advice I've come across for people wanting to write, whether it's to start a blog or anything else is: Write what you know. (And more specific to Erotica: Write what turns you on.)
The story is pure fiction in this case, just a little fantasy that was playing out in my head. But the main character, Claudia is loosely based on me. Considering I strictly follow especially the second bit of advice, to write what turns me on, my stories tend to be told from the perspective of someone very much like me.

What genre does your book fall under?
Erotica.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
It's self-published, with the help of the lovely people at WriteHit.com

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It's only a short story, about 8500 words and took me about 3 weeks with plenty of distractions and interruptions. Frankly I find it impossible to focus on one thing at a time and actually started writing 'Ladies' Day' while I was in the middle of two more stories which I still haven't finished.

Give a one sentence synopsis of your novel:
Chance brings two strangers together who despite the absurdity of the situation cannot fight their attraction for one another.

What other works would you compare your story to?
Oh I'm really not sure. I don't like to compare my work to the stuff I read because I don't feel I'm at the same level just yet. But within similar genres I enjoy reading for example Tina Folsom, Livia Ellis and others. That being said, I like to write in first person present tense. My aim is to give the impression that everything is happening right now. And that style is one I haven't come across in a lot of other books.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?
The story is set in Ascot, UK. I'm familiar with the area and have often found myself stuck in those impossibly huge traffic jams where the story begins. My way of passing the time is imagining that somewhere in the queues of expensive cars, perhaps there is a guy like Peter; charming, attractive but for whatever reason having a bad day. Escaping from the madness, even momentarily could be just the right way to turn things around.

What else might pique the reader’s interest?
In my story I hope to have captured the type of instant chemistry that can occur between two people when they first meet. And in an ideal world we would all be as free as these two to enjoy a guilt-free exploration of where this chemistry might lead.

“Cheers,” I say, raising my glass towards him, “to us, pretending to be friendly.”

We both take a sip, stealing little looks at each other in turn.

He’s putting on a brilliant performance, like what he said in the car never happened. Perhaps it’s his way of dealing with things. Who am I to argue with such a tempting façade.

I offer him the bread basket and platter of cold cuts. He eats eagerly, like he’s famished.

“You know, had I known, I would've prepared something a little nicer than this,” I joke.

“I’ll keep that in mind. To warn you in advance before randomly meeting at the side of the road,” he responds.

I eat a few bites myself

“What’s your name?” I ask.

Ok, enough about me and my book, on to next instalment of this blog hop. I have tagged the following authors, who will each post about one of their books next Wednesday. In the meanwhile, why not visit them already to sample some of their work.

Livia Ellis
Gary Starta
Dan Cocker
Julez S. Morbius
Robert India

  1. I have read Dan Cocker's The Meeting and I must say, it's a quite a hot ride into the male psyche!! A definite must! Will have to check out the others!

  2. I must admit I too enjoy reading from a male perspective every once in a while. It's nice to get a glimpse of what goes on in a man's head ;)
